That is exactly what Twitch streamer Perri Karyal has managed to do. She created a setup using a special headset that reads your tiny electrical signals working in the brain, and these signals are turned into commands for a game, so she can attack, dodge, or use magic in Elden Ring all just by thinking about it.

How The Idea Started

Perri had learned about Bluetooth EEG devices, which are normally used for science and medical research. To her surprise, these devices were not too expensive and could be bought online.

Since she had a background in Psychology, she understood how the brain sends signals when you imagine actions. Using an EEG headset called Emotiv, she trained the system in such a way that it will detect the brain patterns when she imagines doing specific things, like moving forward. These patterns then turned into a controller for the game.

Training the Brain to Control the Game

Now, the difficult part is to control the game using your mind, which is not instantaneous; it takes a lot of practice. Perri had to imagine the same movement hundreds of times until the computer could recognize the brain signal every time.

She also added sensors like accelerometers to her headset, which are used to detect head movements. These sensors helped her to look around or move the camera in the game just by tilting her head.

She combined this with voice commands and eye tracking, creating a complete hands-free control system.

More Games, More Challenges

Perri has tested this invention on Elden Ring, and after the success of Elden Ring, she tried other games like Jump King, which is famously hard.

She mapped one brain signal to make her character jump and used head tilts for movements. Even though the game is known for being frustrating, she managed to pass several levels, doing so much better than many people who play with a regular controller.

This showed how brain-controlled gaming can be used for several different types of games.

Future Technology

Mind-controlled gaming is not just a cool experiment, but it could help people with disabilities or mobility problems enjoy video games. EEG technology might make games more inclusive and allow everyone to play, no matter their physical limitations.

Perri's work is proof that with the right tools, technology can turn something once seen in science fiction into a real, working system.
