As the largest video game exhibition in Japan, the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) draws in gamers, developers, and industry professionals from all over the globe.
Every year the event takes place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan and focuses on entertainment and the latest in gaming technology, innovative gameplay, and upcoming titles.
The TGS in 2025 took place from September 25 to 28 and featured business presentations alongside public exhibitions.
The theme for this year as “Unlimited, Neverending Playground” which focused on geared for deeper immersion.
Attendees were then able to access 11 halls hosting over 772 exhibitors and 4,000 booths which was the largest TGS to this date.
The event focused heavily on indie and game studio collaborations and the game selection was noted to be the most diverse in TGS history.
Nearly all leading game developers presented their works in progress at the event. Titles like Resident Evil Requiem, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Monster Hunter Stories 3 were showcased by Capcom while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was stowed in favor of the new Xbox version of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, HD-2D remakes of the first two Dragon Quest titles, and the recently remastered Final Fantasy Tactics by Square Enix.
The new game project that was revealed by Konami on September 26 certainly was waved about to garner the most new buzz.
There was far more to TGS 2025 than just game previews. The Family Game Park had an area which was free, where families could enjoy game sessions which integrated learning with gaming.
Cosplay fans congregated in certain sections to put on display their amazing works of art. The Creator Lounge was a central location where streamers and influencers could livestream and interact with their audiences while playing their games.
Apart from gaming, TGS 2025 had a focus on charity as well. The ‘GAME with YOU Donation’ project was targeted at supporting the education and development of young children, and it received donations from individual gamers through a cashless collection system.
From a cultural perspective, the event showcased Japan's traditional gaming culture with a modern twist, adding a wonderful ambiance for attendees.
As for attendees who could not make it to the venue, TGS 2025 was streamed live and was available on other online sites. It was available on YouTube, Twitch and Steam where it also had developer interviews and special trailers. This joined effort let people from all over the world to join in on the excitement and exploration of the show.
