Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Tencent, claiming that the upcoming game Light of Motiram is a complete replica of Horizon.

According to Sony, the game Light of Motiram is an imitation of all the important elements from the Horizon franchise, such as robotic animal designs, visual style, character aesthetic, and post-apocalyptic themes.

Tencent had reportedly approached Sony in 2024 with a collaboration proposal on a Horizon spinoff, which Sony declined.

Despite this disapproval, Tencent allegedly continued to work on the project and later revealed Light of Motiram under its Polaris Quest studio. Sony claims that the similarities are way too close for it to be a coincidence.

Why Fans and Sony See It as a Horizon Rip-Off

Many fans in the gaming community have agreed with Sony's opinion, calling the new Light of Motiram unoriginal and a replica of Horizon.

The trailer includes machine creatures, tribal-tech themes, and a female archer protagonist, and all of these elements heavily remind us of Horizon Zero Dawn. Observers have even coined the nickname "Horizon Zero Originality."

Legal Claims and What Sony Wants

Sony's lawsuit was filed in a California federal court, demanding an injunction to stop Tencent from releasing Light of Motiram and seeking statutory damages reportedly up to $150,000 for each Horizon work that is copied.

Sony also wants the removal of any compromising marketing and promotional material.

What's Next in the Horizon vs Light of Motiram Battle

Legal experts say that the copyright lawsuits depend on how courts define protectable elements. Visual style, different and unique characters, narrative themes, and the fonts used may strengthen Sony's case.

Tencent has not yet made any official statement from their end, but the outcome could influence how intellectual property rights are controlled and maintained in the gaming industry.

This case caused concerns over game cloning and IP protection. It follows other high-profile disputes in the industry, such as Nintendo's litigation over Palworld. If Sony wins, it could set a legal precedent for stricter law enforcement of creative originality in the game design.

Final Thoughts

Sony's lawsuit against Tencent over Light of Motiram brings on display the Horizon clone accusations, copyright enforcement, and the integrity of creative ownership in gaming.

Sony is standing on strong ground about the legal rights, and as the case unfolds, it will be watched closely by the creators and fans.
