Hulu app is officially shutting down in 2026, and if that is not enough, it has united itself with Disney+. This change is not solely about content move, it is more. Read to know the reason. Photo by: Hulu Press

Disney has now officially announced that the Hulu app will shut down in 2026, and all the shows, movies, and live content of Hulu will be transferred into the Disney+ app. This means that there will be no independent Hulu anymore. We have a merger!

Disney is moving the markets and creating one big streaming platform where all the people can watch everything that they like at one single place instead of switching to different apps.

The new Disney+ will now not just have the Disney content but also Hulu's content, which includes shows, films, news, sports, and more, making it easy to access and convenient for viewers.

Disney Says the Merger Will Improve the Streaming Experience

Disney believes that this union between Hulu and Disney+ will make things faster, simpler, and cost-effective. Since it is a global problem of shifting to multiple different apps for our various tastes in movies, this idea of merging together multiple platforms can help reduce confusion for users, keep people subscribed for longer, and lower Disney's operating costs.

This can create a path of creating something valuable and new and improving features for subscribers. This is not just a technical change but a part of a bigger plan to make Disney+ more competitive in the streaming community.

For people based outside of the U.S., this change might be a bit different. In fall 2025, Hulu will replace the "Star" hub on Disney+, becoming Disney's global general entertainment brand.

There is still an option to subscribe to Hulu and Disney+ separately, but they will be in the same app. This way, you can have a choice of choosing your own plan without having to download multiple apps.

Hulu + Live TV will also change and will start working with Fubo, a live TV streaming service, before completely moving into Disney+.

Disney executives have also promised something more than a content move; they have promised better new features, a personalized homepage, and a better navigation system.

Disney is betting big on making this combined platform the go-to place for all streaming needs.
