Arc Raiders is a third-person extraction shooter which is made by Embark Studios, released on October 30, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
In the game, you play as a “Raider” who goes to the dangerous surface to scavenge, fight, and extract loot, all while facing both other players and deadly robotic enemies (called ARCs).
Many reviewers praise it for being accessible not as punishing as some hardcore extraction shooters, but still offering risk, tension, and meaningful decisions.
Since it has been launched, Arc Raiders has seen an explosive growth. According to the reports, the game sold over 4 million copies and hit more than 700,000 concurrent players across several platforms.

But popularity came with growing pains: many players reported long login queues, matchmaking delays, and server strain during launch.
That kind of pressure is a double-edged sword more players show excitement, but the backend is being tested hard.
On Metacritic, Arc Raiders has strong reviews: critics gave it a score of 86/100, and many agree it’s one of the most polished extraction shooters released recently.

Some of the biggest praise goes to the sound design, worldbuilding, and how the game feels both tense as well as alive.
NotebookCheck, for example, highlights how well the game runs on Unreal Engine 5, calling its visuals “stable and impressive” with only a few, small, and minor bugs.
On Reddit, many players have shared surprisingly varied and honest takes: one user praised the third-person camera, saying it improves the situational awareness and makes traversal much more fun.

Other Raiders say the game delivers a kind of “extraction shooter dopamine” they haven’t found in anything else it’s addictive, tense, and beautifully designed.
Still, not everyone is sold: some players feel it’s overhyped, saying after a few hours the loop “didn’t quite hook them.”
Many players applaud how the game blends PvPvE fighting both robots and other players in a dynamic world. The AI is smart, giving both challenge and unpredictability.
The vertical traversal is a big deal too: climbing, zipping, sliding these moves feel fluid and fun. Redditors say it’s more satisfying than many first-person extraction games.
Another highlight is the emergent gameplay: each run feels different. According to community and critic reviews, you’ll have memorable moments big fights, quiet looting, tense extractions.
One major controversial point is that Arc Raiders has used generative AI for voice lines. Some reviewers and players say this makes characters feel less human and raises questions about ethics.
Loot and progression are another sore spot. According to some user reviews, the loot system doesn’t always feel rewarding materials you gather sometimes only help you repair what you lost, not really push you ahead.
A few Reddit users also mention repetitive or “fetch-quest” style missions that don’t quite hit the same depth as the more high-stakes extraction loop.
Many players note that Arc Raiders runs very smoothly, and the Unreal Engine 5 visuals are sharp.
However, some users, especially on lower-end systems or during high server load, saw frame rate issues or “pop-in” of shadows and visual effects.

Embark seems to have built a good performance base, but as the population grows, stability under load remains a concern.
Shortly after launch, several players reported loot-stealing cheaters people using cheats like aimbots or wall hacks.

In response, Embark Studios also implemented an “Abnormal Match Compensation” system, which automatically restores stolen gear to victims without needing them to file a report.
Cheaters are reportedly facing some serious consequences like permanent bans, gear loss, and other penalties. This move has earned them praises in the community for prioritizing fairness.
The North Line update which was done on Nov 13, 2025 is being hyped as the biggest so far. It introduces a new enemy called The Matriarch, and a community event where players gather “Merits” to unlock a new map named Stella Montis.

Later, once that map is unlocked, a new threat the Shredder ARC (a high-risk, close-quarters enemy) will appear.
This plan shows Embark is serious about adding long-term content and giving players something to work toward beyond just surviving and looting.
From what players and critics are saying, Arc Raiders is a very strong entry into the extraction-shooter genre. It’s exciting, tense, unpredictable and visually polished.

But it’s not perfect: AI voice work, some loot system complaints, and launch server issues raise real concerns.
If you enjoy co-op, extraction-style risk, and don’t mind occasional bugs or long queues, this game may be for you. If you prefer a more “safe loop” or hate losing everything, it could be frustrating.
Overall, Arc Raiders seems to be a promising hit one that’s already making waves, and may define the genre for years to come.
